So I used the Jackals in two ways; 1) to provide information about the explosions/tunnel collapse, which they had been tasked by Fassogen to clean up 2) to continue their involvement with Owen, by having them follow us into the Loveless. I think I can remove the Jackals without losing anything: Regards the first point, since all the prisoners are now cleaning out the tunnels, they are directly involved down there and the reasons/rumours for the tunnel collapse could have come from someone else, it doesn’t have to be the Jackals. For the second point, I agree that their introduction in chapter 18 is weak. They can follow us into the Loveless, but I’ll remove them here, and leave that for a later installment (whoever wants to write them in).

WFR is more self directed roleplaying writing, or at least as I was conceiving it. Basically the author/player is handing it back to the GM when they decide they want outside/GM input in the story. It’s a way of writing where the player has all the control they want within the parameters of the world and setting, but can always reach out for things unforeseen or unknown or alternative to help reset or whatever is required at the moment. So it could be back and forth every paragraph (though I see logistical issues arising with that, since we can’t even arrange a couple of hours for a live game), or it could be pages and pages of writing and then throwing it back to the GM for a small section, before continuing on. Or it could be one day a back and forth, the next day pages and pages. I think WFR stands for Writing, Free-Roleplay.

I assumed there was always a tacit understanding, since ending up in the Loveless is more or less a one way ticket it makes a perfect way to acquire goods and materials and labour that will not be scrutinized or questioned, as opposed to say stealing children off the streets. The arrangement is also useful is that it allows the Majikar to play both ends of the game, they incentivize high rates of criminal kidnapping and human trafficking, with their up river slave trade, create lots of heinous criminals, who the authorities catch and shove into a prison where the Majikar get to use them for whatever they will in the in city labs, (the place in the Wastrials). In other words, the tunnels are not new, there has always been that dark (darker) side to the Imperial Prison which has more or less always served the needs of the necroengineers and scientists.
