Derhart, Dearheart, various derivations of such. Yes you are correct. Extraordinarily mountainous and rough coast, deciduous and pine forests. For climate Im thinking: marine west coast climate or oceanic climate. In the Köppen classification, much of the coast is Cfb—temperate. But I could be completely wrong. Id have to go back to my maps and work it out. So you may want to avoid climate and plant specifics.

@Quint said: I’m not sure what the best fix is. I’m willing to take a shot at editing/remixing 18 after I do 19 to bring it closer to what I see @falconius as describing if @hexlor is ok with that, but I know I wouldn’t really want anyone doing that to my chapters, so it’s fine with me if that’s a no-op. No. Leave people their chapters to do with what they will. As long as your chapter is more in line with the made up reality it will still work, and if need be, and he ever feels like it, 18 can be retroactively corrected to match what happens further down the lines. Consider 18 a draft and in not binding on any small continuity problems (such as them being miners instead of doing menial lab work). In fact we probably want to keep that general idea in regards to all chapters.

@Quint yes, it’s the same story, just with minor edits. I’m hoping to post about a chapter each month, and the first 4/5 will just be updated versions of what was previously posted on Discord. This also gives me the bandwidth to work on the subsequent chapters in advance, and any WIT chapters when it comes back around to my turn.

@Falconius Hold on! It was Kettle who did the killing. Not Zassin. The guy was recuperating in bed from his burns in the Kenny Co. fire; when Kettle snuck up the stairs and found him and suffocated him to death. It’s funny how all the questionable behaviour is heaped upon Zassin - talk about giving a guy a bad name! You go and burn down one city and suddenly you get blamed for everything! EDIT: The father was slashed by Zassin as he fled the house and jumped into the river. The boy was left unharmed - supposdly to grow up and seek revenge on the man who now everyone believes killed his father (even though it was Kettle and not Zassin).

WFR is more self directed roleplaying writing, or at least as I was conceiving it. Basically the author/player is handing it back to the GM when they decide they want outside/GM input in the story. It’s a way of writing where the player has all the control they want within the parameters of the world and setting, but can always reach out for things unforeseen or unknown or alternative to help reset or whatever is required at the moment. So it could be back and forth every paragraph (though I see logistical issues arising with that, since we can’t even arrange a couple of hours for a live game), or it could be pages and pages of writing and then throwing it back to the GM for a small section, before continuing on. Or it could be one day a back and forth, the next day pages and pages. I think WFR stands for Writing, Free-Roleplay.

I assumed there was always a tacit understanding, since ending up in the Loveless is more or less a one way ticket it makes a perfect way to acquire goods and materials and labour that will not be scrutinized or questioned, as opposed to say stealing children off the streets. The arrangement is also useful is that it allows the Majikar to play both ends of the game, they incentivize high rates of criminal kidnapping and human trafficking, with their up river slave trade, create lots of heinous criminals, who the authorities catch and shove into a prison where the Majikar get to use them for whatever they will in the in city labs, (the place in the Wastrials). In other words, the tunnels are not new, there has always been that dark (darker) side to the Imperial Prison which has more or less always served the needs of the necroengineers and scientists.

@Quint I like the whole setting of Le Macon marching along and waiting around on the bottom of the lake. You made the hair thing a much more vital element than I was expecting! In the notes you theorized why she’s hanging out in the lake, and that she’s afraid that people may still be looking for her. If a young witch had escaped the Magikar and made it to perceived safety, only to then be accused of witchcraft, tied to a stone and flung into a lake to see if she floats - I think if she floated she’d be guilty of witchcraft. So, suggesting that she’s been hiding out in the lake since her trial by water.

@Hexlor Yes, agreed. I’m going to need some time with the character to get a feel for that, I think. Same as above, though I think I have some ideas there. He has a very strong sense of duty, and duty to Amerel might be the main reason. Lurking deeper, the outbursts would seem to indicate to me that somewhere down there, so deep down that I don’t think you could find it with floodlights and rappelling gear, Le Maçon perhaps did have feelings for his family. But we’ll need to see. He still looks pretty human (for a Venge), I think James and I brainstormed about this somewhere. I’m meh about keeping the bio as a live doc, might just be laziness on my part. It was meant to be a summary of the intro chapters that filled in some additional stuff that I couldn’t really get in there, like looking like Leonardo Da Vinci. Incidentally, I do like the questions about his personality and potential plot inconsistencies. I hope it does come through that I have a pretty developed idea of him in my head, but don’t have the skills to write an entire psych profile or the like - I find it helpful to talk about what he’d do and why, which is where most of these questions go. So feel free to heap it on.

@Hexlor said: Do the Venge not have the ability to step outside the veil and re-enter somewhere within the forest? If they do have this ability then you will need to provide a reason why Le Mason is not using, or cannot use this ability in tracking his way to the SQ’s. In addition to @falconius 's answer: Being Venge didn’t come with an instruction manual. I’ve definitely imagined him sticking to human routine as he falls more into this new existence. Maybe there are idiosyncracies he’ll always keep. It’s entirely possible nobody’s told him he can do it yet, and he hasn’t had the instinct to try. Even if he’s aware of the possibility, my impression of the Gauntlet is that it’s a dangerous place, I’m not sure that he’d necessarily feel it prudent to risk it. I’m not sure how easy or hard it is to navigate in the Gauntlet, either. Would he get lost? Where might he come out? Another reason to go the simple, long way. Le Maçon is much more of the slow and steady kind of personality. Plodding forward towards a goal in a way that makes it look inconceivable that he wouldn’t get there, no matter whatever is in between. Walking there just kind of suits him for me. @Hexlor said: …or is the hammer actually Venge itself: ‘Coalescers’. Like that example @falconius gave of the souls coalescing into a physical item While I don’t think we’ve canonically decided what the hammer is, that was my inspiration. Sometimes I just write things and hope that it can work inside the canon. (Like Fassogen’s description in the L&O story.) @Falconius said: what year is this set? 9XX? I was looking through the thread, and I don’t think I answered this, but might have missed it. My personal idea was that it should be within a year or two of the Spider Queens escaping the Magikar, which I think makes it ~10-15 years after Amerel was razed?

I didnt see it as a lack of empathy, rather a lack of ability 9r knowledge. In how to connect, how to show his inner feelings how to approach what to him were the insurmountable challenges in life. Give him a practical task of building somthing, or solving some problem, and he could do it, or figure out how to do it, give him the nebulous task of forming a relationship and he was lost, indeed he might not even have realized there was an issue at all.

Haha yeah I saw that too and couldn’t help having the same thought. Also, most of those little Queendoms are eponymous. Only I think that I was thinking it’d be said closer to ‘sigh-lean’ rather than the normal pronunciation of Celine.

I’d recommend reading the Intro stories (001-003) before reading the bio - I think the stories illustrate Le Maçon far better than the bio, and that the bio is better for reference. Oh, and I play very fast and loose with canon here, and am happy to iterate to get things better in line, if needed.
